    Default RIP Tiny

Lost one off my female Pymies this morning . Found her lying on the ground trying to move herself.First i thought she was playing dead, but when i looked later she had passed over to that big place up there.
Ive had the trio for 4 months. They were roughly 6 months old when i got them. They were captive farmed.
I suspect she might have been ill since i got her. She didnt seem as big as the other 2 and never really showed the same coloration, she was pretty dark most of the time. I guess things like this happen.
My other female and male seem really healthy and happy and i hope they stay that way.

Sorry to hear of your loss, its sad when the little ones go, can you do me a favour and fill out some info on a thread in the main section of the forum?
Where did you get your pygmy from?
We are trying to figure out reasons why pygmy chams are dying so quickly to see if we can pinpoint anything in particular

    Hiya Tazjunky

Will do. The more i read it seems that some die pretty quick while others can last longer.

Its a shame that people have had little success, but hopefully gathering info on the other thread might help us pin point the problem. I think its down to one or 2 problems, either parasites or UVB (lack of)

Yes it is a shame. They are such wonderful creatures. I have seen people on the web mention using deworming medication.
But without knowing which type and what dose i think you could do more harm than good. I think i might install a uvb bulb and put in on a timer.

Yeah Im going to use a 5% uvb bulb this time round. fingers crossed all is well. I am going to see a vet to find out how to give the little guys some de-worming treatment. I took the plunge and put an order in for 2 trios - bearded and kenyans. Fingers crossed this time all is well!

Just a update. The male has died today. Was perfect this morning and around 3 this afternoon i gave the tank a little misting.
I always keep a eye out for them so i dont squirt them directly. I could see the female in one of the plants but not the male, when i finished spraying i noticed him clinging to a twig upside down.
I picked him up and he seemed to be black and white and not alert. I got my video camera out cause he was making strange contracting and caught him where he must have taken his last breath literally.
It's really not nice knowing that one minute they fine and the next they died. Ive only had them 4 months and i am hesitant to get anymore at this moment. I know they dont have a long life span in the wild neither, but if they are only going to survive for a few months like mine did its like throwing money down the drain.
I would rather buy a bigger species chameleon thats captive bred and healthy than try my luck again with the farmed or wild caught ones.
I know you cant see inside the little pygmies or know what their health is like so if it causes more stress to import them id rather just let them be in the wild.

Gutted that your male has died. its not nice at all when they seem to just die for no reason.
Did he have sunken eyes at all?
I think we need to get a worming regime underway with these little guys. im looking in to it at the minute and trying to find a vet that can confirm the doseage etc.
I know it can be disheartening with the pygmy dying, maybe you could get a 5% UVB bulb for the remaining female? There is always the possibility that she may be pregnant so all may not have been in vain. Fingers crossed this is the case!
